Francis X. Conroy Dies Friday, June 2

Francis X. Conroy of Conroy died in the Mercy hospital in Cedar Rapids Friday morning, June 2, where he has been a patient for the past five months. The body was brought to the Brown Funeral Home in Marengo where it remained until Monday morning.

Funeral services were held at St. Patrick's church in Marengo Monday morning at nine o'clock the Rev. W. E. Carroll celebrating the requiem high mass with St. Patrick's choir singing the responses.

Interment was in Calvary cemetery beside the bodies of his father, mother, sisters and brothers who preceded him in death.

Pallbearers were: Alvin Werr, Alex Stanerson, Joe Zuber, G. H. Furler, William Trimpe and John Schwarting.

Francis Conroy, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Conroy was born in Hilton township, Iowa county on Dec. 15, 1867. He attended St. Ambrose college in Davenport.

For many years he and his brothers operated the old Conroy homestead near Conroy.

He is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

His father, James Conroy, was largely responsible for securing the right of way for the railroad and the town of Conroy bears his name.

Frank Conroy was honest in his dealings, faithful to his word and promise. He was a lifelong member of the Catholic church and was held in high esteem in the community where he resided for so many years.

Frank Conroy will be missed in the neighborhood where he has been a resident ever since his birth.

George Conroy of Streator, Ill., Frank Mulherin of Cedar Rapids, Dennis Mulherin of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Robert Scandridge of Ladora attended the funeral Tuesday morning.
