John Conroy, Hilton Township, Dies Friday

Funeral Held At St. Patrick's, Marengo, Monday

Funeral services for John Conroy were held at St. Patrick's church in Marengo Monday morning, conducted by Rev. W. C. Carroll, singing the Requiem High Mass, and responses were sung by the Marengo choir.

Pall bearers were: Alvin Werr, Fred Lienen, John Schwarting, Friedel Furler, Alex Stanerson and Joe Donohoe.

Interment was in Mt. Cavalry cemetery in Marengo.

John Conroy was born on the old Conroy homestead in Hilton township Nov. 17, 1869. he attended the country school and later the Marengo high school.

He spent his entire life on the farm on which he was born.

Nine weeks ago he became ill and was taken to the Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, where everything that could possibly be done was done for him, but he passed away on Friday at 9:30 p.m. The body was taken to the McSwiggin & Uhlmann funeral home here, where it remained until the funeral.

He leaves to mourn his passing one brother, Frank, of the home; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. James Conroy, Streator, Ill., and Mrs. Hugh Conroy, Pasadena, Cal., and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and five sisters.

John Conroy was a kind son to his parents, a loving brother and a good neighbor.

To his brother the sincere sympathy of the entire community is extended.

Those attending the funeral from a distance were: Mrs. James Conroy and son of Streator, Ill., Mr. Denis Mulherin, Frank Mulherin and son Raymond, Con Lonergan and Misses Josephine and Katherine Lonergan, all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Furler, of Blairstown, Iowa.
