Obituary

Peter Morrin was born in Kings County, Ireland, Sixty-eight years ago. When seven years old he came to America with his parents and the home was first made in New York; another move brought the family to Ohio where they spent five years, and then Muscatine, Iowa, was selected as the home. In 1865 the subject of this sketch came to Iowa County and located on the farm in Troy township which continued to be the home until his death on Nov. 22nd, 1911.
Thirty-seven years ago he was united in marriage to Miss Johanna Cashman of Muscatine. To this union were born seven children; of these one died and the living are three sons and three daughters, Thomas, Louis, William, Mollie, Mrs. Thomas Lillis and Nellie. The wife and mother died several years ago and of brothers and sisters he leaves the following: M. H., James and Mrs. Joseph Hanson of this community and Patrick of Spencer, John of Humboldt and Kate of Omaha.
The funeral services were held in St. Mary's church, Williamsburg, on Friday, Nov. 24th. A solemn requiem Mass was offered for the repose of his soul. The celebrant of the Mass was Father J. M. Hanson of Dunlap, a nephew of the deceased, Father C. J. Donohoe, of Davenport, was deacon and Father Glenn sub-deacon. Father W. P. Shannahan, president of St. Ambrose College, Davenport, another nephew of the deceased, was master of ceremonies and also preached the funeral sermon in which was paid a fitting tribute to the life and worth of the faithful son of the faith. The church was filled with old friends and neighbors who gathered from far and near to pay their last tribute of respect to the well known citizen. The interment was in St. Mary's cemetery beside the body of the wife who died some years ago.
Mr. Morrin lived here for many years and his life was an open book to the whole community. Rarely would one meet with a finer character or one in whom were mingled so many of those traits and virtues that at once proclaim the Christian man. He was of a deeply religious nature and his every word, act and thought were shaped or directed to the attainment of that great end -- the salvation of his immortal soul.
To the bereaved family the sympathy of the community is offered.
