Walter Smith, 85, former Marengo policeman, died Thursday, May 13.
Born near Victor, December 9, 1879, he farmed in Iowa County, moving to Marengo in 1931. He served as a policeman for six years and as street commissioner there for four years.
He was a 50-year member of the IOOF lodge and a member of the KP lodge.
He was married to Minnie Miller Aug. 21, 1901. She died in 1952. He was married to Pearl Forney Feb. 14, 1954.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Harold of Marengo and Floyd of Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Mrs. Earl King, Blairstown; Mrs. Clarence Smith, Marengo, and Mrs. Albert Kimm, Victor; two stepsons; 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday at 2pm in the First Methodist Church at Marengo.
