Mrs. Mary Slager

Mary Breu was born in Austria, June 21, 1840, and came to this country in 1860. Some four years later she was united in marriage to Anthony Slager, another emigrant, who came from Austria about the same time. They were the parents of ten children, eight of which are living.

They made their home on a farm northwest of Millersburg, and were of that peaceable, hard working class that makes our most substantial citizens.

Mr. Slager passed away in 1898 and since that time Mrs. Slager has made her home with her children. She was an adherent of the church and was baptized in the old country. A firm believer in the teachings of the Great Book, she counseled her children in the Christian faith. As age came on Mrs. Slager suffered with heart trouble and prepared for the end with patience. She received the sacrament as the time drew near and gave much of her time to prayer.

December 9th a summons came and she answered the great call.

The eight children surviving her are as follows: Frank Slager, Mrs. Stella Klever, Mary Slager, Will Slager, George Slager, Mrs. Anna Klever, John Slager and Mrs. Lena Floerchinger, the last named residing in Poweshiek county. The others all living in Iowa County.

The funeral services were held at the Ohio Methodist Protestant church December 11, conducted by W. H. Betz, of Ladora.
