Michael Kelly

Well Known Resident of English Township Dies Sunday.

Michael Kelly, one of the well known native sons of English township died at his home Sunday, after a short illness from pneumonia.
The funeral services were held on Wednesday morning at nine o'clock at the Catholic church in Millersburg and were conducted by Father Coughlin. A large concourse of relatives, friends, and old neighbors was present to pay the last tribute of respect to one whose life was passed in the neighborhood of his birth.
The interment was in the Catholic cemetery near Millersburg, and the pallbearers were John Curry, Vincent Donohoe, Tim Donohoe, Joseph Kelly, Joseph Carroll, and Francis Giblin.
Michael Kelly was born in English township in May 1860; his parents were Mr. and Mrs. John Kelly, pioneer settlers of English township. He attended the old rural schools, assisted with the work on the old farm, arriving at his maturity as a young man known and noted for his splendid character inherited from his most exemplary parents. On Oct. 18, 1882, at Armah, he was united in marriage to Miss Clarissa Murrin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Loughlin Murrin, of Fillmore township. The ceremony was performed by Father Walsh, and the home was established in English township. To this union were born six children, three sons and three daughters: John, Loughlin, Michael, Teresa, now Mrs. Charles McDonald; Clarisa, now Mrs. William O'Rourke and Ethel, now Mrs. Charles McDonald. These, together with the mother are left to mourn their great loss.
Besides these he leaves one brother, John, of English, and one sister, Mrs. Tim Donohoe, of Pilot.
Michael Kelly spent his entire life in the immediate neighborhood of his birth, and none in English township was more highly respected; he was always the home-loving, friend-making individual, strictly attentive to his own affairs, yet ever and always ready to extend help where help was needed. He was honest in all his transactions, and his word was always his bond; he loved peace and harmony, justice and fairness, and he would champion a neighbor's just cause as readily as he would his own. He never sought favor or preferment, and in all movements for the betterments of his community he was a willing worker. He was a citizen of the first rank, a prince among his fellows, a man with a clean mind and a clean heart, a practical Christian, and the community honored by his life is bowed in sorrow for his death.
