Merlin L. Weisskopf

Memorial services for Merlin L. Weisskopf, 74, Victor, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 21, at the Smith Funeral Home, Victor. He died Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City.

The Rev. Jim Davis, Victor United Methodist Church, officiated at the service.

Merlin L. Weisskopf was born May 21, 1936, near Victor, the son of William and Perah McClenathan Weisskopf. He was raised on the family farm near Victor and graduated from Victor High School in 1954.

He married Donna Nail June 12, 1954. The couple farmed southeast of Victor until 1964. They moved to Victor and owned and operated Victor Implement and Seed for 10 years. He moved to Altanta, Ga., in 1985 and then to Altamonte Springs, Fla., where he worked for SE Precast as a service manager.

He married Peggy Sue Bourikas in Altamonte Springs in 1993.

He was one who did things his own way. He was a hard worker and taught his children this quality among other fundamentals of life. He loved music, especially country western and big band. He enjoyed cooking, grilling, gardening, snowmobiling, playing his harmonica and golfing.

Weisskopf is survived by his children and their spouses, Dan and Peggy Weisskopf, Victor; Russ Weisskopf and special friend Sheila Soppe, West Union; Jeff and Justine Weisskopf, Marengo, and Angie and Rick Radcliffe, Brooklyn; 11 grandchildren and their spouses, Matt and Stacia Weisskopf and Brett and Danielle Weisskopf, all Victor; Chad Weisskopf, Marshall, Mo.; Trisha Benson, New Sharon; Sion and Amy Fontinel and Sarah and Matt Johnson, all Victor; Erin and Travis Henkle, Malcom; Steve Hawkins, Ankeny; Monica Radcliffe, Clermont, and Morgan Hawkins, Brooklyn; 12 great-grandchildren and his siblings, Perah Read, Victor, and Laverne Weisskopf and wife Nancy, Ladora.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Sue Weisskopf; his parents and one grandson, Jason Weisskopf.
