Rae Jean Klever, 67

Funeral services for Rae Jean Klever, 67, Marengo, were held at 1 pm Monday, Jan. 23 at First United Methodist Church, Marengo. She died Thursday evening, Jan. 19, 1995, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness with cancer.

The Rev. Mark Young and the Rev. Delbert Rankin officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Marengo Cemetery, Marengo. Casket bearers were Henry Eichorn, Paul Shepherd, James Moore, Sidney Moore, Don Schafbuch and James (Harley) York.

Flower committee members were LuAnn Allar, Doris Knutson, Julie York and Cathy Shepherd.

A memorial fund has been established.

Hoover-Valentine Funeral Home, Marengo, was in charge of arrangements.

Rae Jean Lois Klever was born June 16, 1927, at Marengo, the daughter of Floyd and Christine Eichhorn Chehak. She graduated from Marengo High School in 1945.

She attended Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, where she received her teacher’s certificate and later graduated from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, where she continued to take post graduate courses.

She was an elementary teacher and during her career, taught at the following schools: Colton Pilot country school, Williamsburg, Burlington, Keokuk, Conroy, Ladora, Blairstown, Amana and Iowa Valley Schools at Marengo, where she taught kindergarten and special education. She retired from teaching in 1989.

She married Lloyd Klever Oct. 24, 1952, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. The couple lived in Marengo for many years.

She was a member of RSVP, the American Legion Auxiliary, National Education Association, Iowa State Education Association, Iowa Valley Education Association, Alpha Nu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and Order of Eastern Star. She did volunteer work at HACAP and the Veterans Hospital, Iowa City.

Klever is survived by her husband; one niece, Jody Graesser, Citrus Heights, Calif.; one nephew, Randy Chehak, Sacramento, Calif., and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Joseph Chehak.
