Services for Marcus O’Donnell, 78, Were Monday

Services for Marcus C. O’Donnell, 78, Williamsburg, were held Monday, Sept. 17 at 11:30 am at St. Mary’s Catholic church, Williamsburg. The Rev. George Bachman celebrated the Mass. Lector was Robert L. Hanson, Williamsburg.

O’Donnell died Friday morning, Sept. 14, 1984 at the Williamsburg Care Center where he had been a resident since Sept. 20, 1983.

Irene (Mrs. Hugh) O’Meara was organist and accompanied the soloist Elaine (Mrs. Francis) Dillin as she sang “Panis Angelicus”, “Ave Maria,” “Jesus, Jesus Come to Me” and “Let There Be Peace.”

Ushers were Vincent Driscoll and William Shannahan. Musicians and ushers are from Williamsburg.

Burial was in the church cemetery. Casket bearers were Dr. Julian Gallo, Dean E. Smith, Harold Kelting, Brad Furman; Leo Driscoll and Jack Tiernan, all of Williamsburg.

The rosary was recited at the Uhlmann Funeral home, Williamsburg, Sunday, Sept. 16, 7:30 pm.

Marcus Clark (Mark) O’Donnell was born July 20, 1906 at Williamsburg, the son of Hugh and Frances Morrin O’Donnell.

He attended the Williamsburg schools and graduated with the class of 1925. Later he attended St. Ambrose College, Davenport.

On April 14, 1934 he was married to Melba Eileen Kuch at Williamsburg, where they lived all their married life.

He was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was choir director for many years. He was a member and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Williamsburg.

For several years he was superintendent of shipping at Collins Radio, Cedar Rapids. After retiring from that position in 1963 he was a car salesman for a time.

Survivors are two daughters, Mary Lynn (Mrs. Jack) Stiles and Lou Ann Hockaday, both of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five brothers, Joseph, Williamsburg; Gerald, Racine, Wis.; Claude, Sacramento, Calif.; Paul, College Park, Md, and Mel, Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Melba, who died July 17, 1980; a sister, Bonnie Zika, and two brothers, Francis and Augustine (Gus) O’Donnell.
