J. H. Tiernan Died Monday, Feb, 10.

J.H. Tiernan, who would have been 75 years old February 27, passed away in his home Monday evening after a short illness from pneumonia

John H. Tiernan was the son of James and Ann Powers Tiernan and was born in Fillmore Township and spent his entire life in the same community in which he died. He was prominent in the affairs of the church and town serving many years as a member of the council. He was also town marshal for several years and for 30 years rural mail carrier and was retired on pension ten years ago. On October 14, 1890 he was united in marriage to Sophia Miller in Saint Michael’s church, Holbrook. On February 8, 1940, Mrs. Tiernan passed away. Six children were born to the couple, four of whom survive the father and mother.

The surviving children are: Earl J. of Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Louis E. Ward of Milwaukee, Wis; and Mrs. Frank J. Hannon and Clarence Tiernan of Parnell. He is also survived by one brother, James W. Tiernan of Van Horne and two sisters; Mrs. John Rock of Clinton, Iowa and Mrs. J. E. Boland, Parnell. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held in Saint Joseph’s church, Parnell at nine o’clock Thursday morning.
