Walter D. Robbins, Jr., age 80 of Marengo, died Monday, May 4, 2009 at Marengo Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. Graveside Services: 12:00 Noon, Thursday, May 7, 2009 at the Marengo Cemetery, with Pastor Diane Earp officiating. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.

He is survived by his wife Doris; two sons, Brad Robbins of Marengo, and Brent Robbins of Council Bluffs; a daughter, Brenda Runyan of Marengo; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Townsend, Jessica Parr, Elizabeth Runyan, Elisha Runyan, Christy Myers, Douglas Robbins, David Robbins, and Debbie Robbins; thirteen great-grandchildren, and a great-great grandson. Also surviving are four sisters, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Dora Harris, a brother in infancy and a sister in infancy, and his favorite dog, Ranger.

Walter D. Robbins, Jr. was born August 11, 1928 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Walter D. Robbins and Josephine Leggit Robbins. He graduated from Burlington High School. Walter met a young woman, Doris C. Bray at the skating rink and the couple later married. He was employed a supervisor and designer at Leopold Desk Company in Burlington for many years. Walter was a gifted craftsman and worked at the Amana Furniture Shop for many years. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. In his youth Walter was a talented roller skater and was in many skating shows.
