DUTIFUL MOTHER DIES SUNDAY AT FARM HOME
Mrs. Mathias Ruth Came To America In 1911 With Family

Mrs. Mathias Ruth passed away at her home south of Holbrook early Sunday morning after a long illness. Mrs. Ruth was eighty years old at the time of her death.

Mrs. Ruth was born at Hannef, Germany, August 8, 1857, as Gertrude Steinbach. She was married to Mathias Ruth in Germany, November 13, 1883, and he died October 19, 1908. Eleven children were born to the couple, three children passing away in infancy. Those living are William of Kansas City, Mo., Ignatius of Boulder, Colorado, Mrs. Gertrude Bulger and Herman of Riverside, Mrs. F.J. McGillan and John of Cosgrove, Mrs. William Meade, and Hubert of Holbrook.

Besides the children she is survived by thirty-one grandchildren, five brothers, Bert Steinbach of Montrose, Colorado, Herman, Frank and Bill of Sheridan.

On March 22, 1911, Mrs. Ruth and her family came to America to make their home. They lived in Sheridan, Iowa, at first, later moving to Cosgrove in 1920. Six years later they moved to Holbrook.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth were held at St. Michael's church at ten o'clock Tuesday morning. Rev. Father John Manning celebrated the requiem high Mass. St. Michael's choir sang the responses and Jack McGillicuddy sank "Lord Have Mercy and Compassion." Acolytes were Billie and John Meade, grandchildren of the deceased.

Bearing the remains to its last resting place in St. Michael's cemetery were Joseph Gaffey, James Monahan, Norman Kuddes, Luke Collins, T.M. Donohoe, J.G. Donohoe
