Mary Agnes (Maynard) Schneider, 83, of Iowa City died Friday, July 11, 2008 at Mercy Hospital following a brief illness.Mary Agnes was born January 13, 1925 in Holbrook, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Theresa Driscoll Duffey. She was a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School, Iowa City and Ottumwa Heights College in Ottumwa. Mary married Maynard Schneider on June 17, 1947 at St. Mary’s Church in Lone Tree.Mary Agnes had taught elementary school in Riverside, Kalona and North Liberty. She was employed for twenty years as a supervisor at American College Testing, retiring in 1995.Mary Agnes was always patient and understanding, and full of “sage” advice. She was an avid Hawkeye and St. Louis Cardinal fan, and enjoyed the daily crossword puzzle and cryptogram. Mary Agnes cherished the time spent with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, with whom she shared cuddles and ice cream bars.Mary Agnes is survived by her four children and fourteen grandchildren,Mary Pat (Ira) Rosenberg of Burr Ridge, IL and daughter Erin; Jean’s children,Brian, Melanie and Theresa; Neil (Sue) Schneider if Brewster, NY and their children.Brad and Katie; Craig (Jody) Schneider of Des Moines and their children, Jocelyn. Andrew, Eric, Kyle and Jared; Paul (Jolyn) Schneider of Iowa City and their children,Jordan, Haley and Grace; three great grandchildren, Michael Gage and Avery; five siblings, Daniel (Margie) Duffey of Lone Tree; Paul (Jean) Duffey of Iowa Park, TX,LaVera (Leroy) Muller of Iowa City; Theresa (Laverne) Samuelson of Boone; Peter (Pat) Duffey of Iowa City and Ann (Glen) Pauley of Coralville; numerous nieces and nephews.Mary Agnes was preceded by her parents, her husband in 2005 and their daughter, Jean Masbruch on May 30, 2008 and four brothers, Harold, Richard, Eugene and Regis.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed the Juvenile Diabetes Program at UIHC c/o the University of Iowa Foundation.
