Kristin Kay Scott, age 44 of Ladora, died Saturday, July 12, 2008 at the English Valley Care Center, North English, Iowa, following an extended illness. Memorial Service: 3:00 P.M. Thursday, July 17, 2008, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Pastor Richard MacKain officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 P.M. Thursday, at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at a later date. Per Kristin’s wishes, her body was cremated. A memorial fund has been established.

She is survived by her son Thomas J. Scott of Ladora, her longtime companion, Eric Volz of Ladora, her father Herbert Hopp of Ladora, a brother Daniel W. Hopp of Iowa City, a half sister Renee Dyson (Michael) and family of Cedar Rapids, and stepchildren Ashley Renee Scott and Eric James Scott of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are good friends Cheryl and Pierre Saba of Cedar Rapids and Gramma Mary Shurtz of Hiawatha. She was preceded in death by her husband Guy Thomas Scott, her mother Margy Virl Hopp, and her birthmother Carol Forde.

Kristin Kay was born April 1, 1964 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. At the age of 3 months she was adopted by Herbert and Margy Hopp. She grew up in the Millersburg area, helping on the farm milking cows and other chores. She was a foster mother to countless animals as a young girl. She was a member of the Lincoln Loyal Leaders 4-H group. Kristin graduated from Deep River Millersburg High School in 1982. She earned a degree in Cosmetology and owned and operated a hair salon in Marengo for many years. She also did hair at Colonial Manor in Amana. Later Kristin was a waitress in Marengo and most recently was employed by Victor Plastics until her illness.

Kristin married Guy Thomas Scott in 1993 in Cedar Rapids. To this union a son, Thomas James was born. She was a stepmother to Ashley and Eric Scott. Guy died in 1996. She later met Eric Volz and they have remained companions since. Kristin enjoyed music, reading, traveling and gardening. She loved roller coasters and her pets, Spike, Baby and many others. She especially cherished the “cooking with Tommy” times. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Victor.
