Charles “Chuck” G. Johnston, 75, of Iowa City died Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at UIHC following complications from a stroke.

Funeral Services to celebrate Chuck’s life will be Friday, June 13, 2008 at 10am
at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City with Rev. Michael Robinson officiating. A reception will follow. Graveside services will be held Friday at 2pm at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney. Friends may call today, Thursday from 4 to 8pm
at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Downey Baptist Church.

Chuck was born July 31, 1932 in North English, the son of Howard and Esther Bauer
Johnston. He was raised on a farm west of North English, and graduated from North English High School in 1951. He served in the US Army from 1953-55, and was stationed in Germany. Chuck married Patricia Milburn on March 20, 1953 at the Christian Church in Sigourney.

Chuck and his family moved to Iowa City in 1964 and farmed east of Iowa City. He was employed in parking and security at the University of Iowa from 1970 until his retirement in 1994. Following his retirement, Chuck was employed at Lewis Systems as a courier, and as a driver for Enterprise Rent-A Car.

Chuck was a member of the Downey Baptist Church.

Chuck had a strong work ethic. He loved to attend his grandchildren’s activities, as well as time spent with friends and fishing.

Chuck is survived by his wife Pat and their three children and seven grandchildren, Jeff (Patti) Johnston of Fairfield and their daughters, Amanda (Justin) Junkel and Kelsey, Jerry Johnston and Jo McKray of Iowa City and sons Corey, Dan, Jason, Zach and Cale, and Julie (Denny) Ham of Ames, Iowa; his sister, Phyllis Hall of Keswick.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Norman.
