Wayne Joseph Koss, 79, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Middle Amana, died Monday, June 9, 2008, at St. Luke's Living Center West from a lengthy illness. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church near Ely with the Rev. Heather Hayes presiding. Burial will be 1:30 p.m. in Czech National Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, where full military rites will be conducted by Hanford American Legion Post 5. Visitation will be one hour before service time Friday at the church. Arrangements with Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.

Wayne was born Sept. 20, 1928, in Swisher, the son of Charles J. and Adeline Nechville Koss. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids in 1947. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1947 to 1951 and from 1952 to 1954. Following his military service he worked for the Boeing Co., Stanley Aviation Co., and the Martin Co., before joining the United States Postal Service. Wayne worked for the postal service for over 40 years, retiring in October 2000.

Wayne is survived by his sister, Karen (Tony) Zacek of Solon; nieces, Anne (Ed) Patenaude of Rye, N.H., and Amy (Jeff) Chance of Atlanta, Ga.; nephews, Scott (Fang-Chi) Koss of Vancouver, Wash., and Matt Zacek of North Liberty; great-nieces Hailey, Hannah, Jasmine and Symphony; and a great-nephew, Ryan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Bernita; and a brother, Charles W. Koss.

Memorials may be directed to the church and/or Parkinson's Research Foundation.
