Leslie W. Beason, 78 of 1212 20th Avenue SW, died Saturday, June 14, 2008 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice Home of Mercy from a lengthy illness. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, at the First Assembly of God with Roy Clark Jr. presiding. Burial to follow in Rogers Grove Cemetery near Ely. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, at First Assembly of God. There will be a Celebration of Life luncheon served during the visitation at the church. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.

Leslie was born June 15, 1929 in rural Marengo, the son of Robert R. and Daisy S. Arment Beason. He attended Montezuma Schools and worked at the family sawmill. He served in US Army Air Force and served from 1948 through 1951. He married Betty Jean Gott on June 22, 1950 in Cedar Rapids. Les was a welder for many years at New Method Equipment and FMC Linkbelt Speeder. He loved to hunt, fish, mushroom hunt, garden and grow wildflowers. He was an avid 500 card game player. He loved playing with his grandkids, and enjoyed the company of his many friends and family.

Leslie is survived by his son Jack Beason of Cedar Rapids, his daughters Nancy Ford of Johnson City, New York and Becky Stensland of Ely; grandchildren Raine and Jay Ford, Jessica (Todd) Harrison, Leif, Lorelei, Autumn and Valerie Stensland.

Leslie is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty, three brothers George, Robert, Norman, and a sister Ramona Beason.
