The Rev. Larry Riegel, 70, Des Moines, formerly of North English, went home to be with his Savior and Lord Wednesday, March 5, 2008. There will be an open house from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 16, at the North English Community Center. Prayer will be offered by the Rev. Ben Wilson at 2 p.m. Funeral services are pending at the Fort Des Moines Methodist Church later this month. Hamilton’s Funeral Home, Des Moines, was in charge of arrangements.

Lawrence Edward Riegel was born Sept. 19, 1937 , in Empress, Alberta, Canada. He was a unique, fun-loving person with many talents. He was an accomplished musician. A graduate of Iowa State University, he studied architecture. In addition, he studied law at Drake University and received a theological degree from Garrettt Evangelical Seminary near Chicago.

After working for IBM and the state of Nebraska, he became a United Methodist pastor in Iowa, serving Three Rivers Parish, North English, the Villisca United Methodist Church and concluding his ministry at Fort Des Moines United Methodist Church.

Rev. Riegel is survived by his children and their spouses, Michael and Terri Riegel, North English, and Steve and Jackie Riegel and Laura Merrill, all Lincoln, Neb; five grandchildren; his mother, Emma Riegel, Des Moines, one brother and his wife, Jim and Darlene, Kansas City, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
