Ralph D. Smith, 74, of Cedar Rapids, IA formerly of North English, IA passed away Thursday, December 13, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center. Per his wishes, Ralph was cremated. A visitation will be held Monday, December 17, 2007 from 2 to 4 pm at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life Service beginning at 4 pm. Officiating will be Reverend William Harnish. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Bonnie, a son Scott (Kim) Smith of Solon, IA; a daughter Debbie (Scott) Rathjens of Springville, IA; three sisters, Diane Smith, Kaye Meyn, and Kathy Anthony; three brothers, Jim Smith, Jack Smith, and Brad Smith; four grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents and a baby sister, Connie Sue Smith. Ralph was born July 27, 1933 in North English, IA to Albert and Mildred (Banes) Smith. He married his high school sweetheart, Bonnie Voss, on May 16, 1953 in North English, IA. Ralph retired from Cedar Rapids Incorporated after working for them for 28 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and a glass of good scotch. Ralph was an avid Hawkeye fan and would go to all of the bowl games. Ralph loved traveling to Oregon to visit his sister and aunt. He will be greatly missed.Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association
