Louise E. Hergert, age 88, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at her home in Middle Amana following a brief illness. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 18, 2008, Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana, Iowa with Elder Tony Berger officiating. Burial will be in the Middle Amana Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Monday, March 17, 2008 at the Middle Amana Community Church. Memorials may be contributed to the Amana Church Society or the Mercy Medical Center Foundation.

She is survived by a son, Steve and wife Kandi of Middle Amana; a daughter, Mary Sutfin and husband George of Crystal Lake, IL; four grandchildren, Travis Hergert of Mason City, Sarah Gorsch and husband Trevor of Marengo, David Sutfin of Chicago and Tim Sutfin of Oklahoma City, OK; and two great-grandchildren, Autumn and Hunter Gorsch. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl Hergert, Jr. on March 15, 2003, a brother, Martin Shoup, and 5 sisters, Helen Hertel, Marie Flick, Edna Zuber, Lina Clemens and Ernestine in infancy.

Louise Elizabeth Shoup was born January 9, 1920 in South Amana, Iowa, the daughter of Martin and Caroline Fritz Shoup. She attended the Middle Amana Schools and married Carl W. Hergert, Jr. on September 23, 1950 at the Middle Amana Church. Louise was a cook in the Amana schools. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, cooking, traveling and visiting with family and friends. In later years she enjoyed taking bus trips. She was an avid Hawkeye fan and also enjoyed watching the Cubs baseball team. Louise was a member of the Amana Church Society.
