Dean Hiltbrunner Border, 80, of rural Ladora passed away Saturday, September 29, 2007, at the Montezuma Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 3, at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor, with the Rev. Jim Davis, pastor of the Victor United Methodist Church, officiating. Organist will be Shari Schnebbe and vocalists will be Ken and Shelly Folkmann. Pallbearers will be Ken Folkmann, Ron Grier, Kim Nelson, Mark Neuhaus, and Kevin and Larry Shaull. Burial will be in the Ohio Cemetery near Ladora. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Marengo Memorial Hospital. Dean was born October 26, 1926, near Ladora. He was one of two children born to Clifford and Myrtle Hiltbrunner Border. He was raised on the farm south of Ladora and graduated from Ladora High School in 1944. He was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater. On June 28, 1947, Dean was married to Arva Schaffner of Millersburg. They made their home on the family farm south of Ladora. The couple was blessed with two children Lee and Pamela. Dean farmed, raising crops and livestock, including pure bred hogs for many years. Even after his retirement he remained active on the farm helping his son. He was an Allis-Chalmers man and restored several tractors in recent years. He was often seen at local auctions adding to his cookie jar collection. Dean enjoyed his family, his pets, and watching NASCAR. He was a lifetime member of the Ohio United Methodist Church near Ladora. Dean will be dearly missed by his wife of 60 years, Arva; his son, Lee of rural Ladora; and his daughter, Pamela (Steve) Ranfeld, and grandchildren, Justin and Maisey, all of rural Guernsey. In death he has rejoined his parents, Clifford and Myrtle and his brother, Gerald.
