Laurence A. Miller, 81, of North English, died of pulmonary fibrosis Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, in his home. At his request, his body was donated to the University of Iowa College of Medicine. Larry's family will celebrate his life with a private ceremony at a later date. There will be no memorial. In lieu of flowers, cards and fond memories will be welcomed.
Larry is survived by his wife, Johnette (Jonnye); five children, Jan Miller Sauter (Ed) of Mount Vernon, Jeff (Anne), Joel (Janan) and Jay (Sara) of Solon, and Jill (Bob) Millar of Naperville, Ill.; his beloved niece, Corie Denslow of Denver, Colo.; and two sisters, Joyce Denslow and Betty Noel of North English.
His grandchildren, Claire and Lauren Sauter, Rachel Sauter Saltzman (Ben), Jaisa and Jadyn Miller. Myles, Molly, and Moriah Miller, Chris, Elisabeth, Jon and Mary Millar, were a source of great pride and enjoyment.
Larry was born Jan. 17, 1926, in North English, Iowa, the son of Lawrence and Elizabeth Kimmel Miller. During World War II, he served in the 12th Armored Division in Germany. He married Jonnye on July 1, 1948, in Iowa City. Larry graduated from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in 1951. He joined his father as a family practice physician in his hometown. ``Doc Larry'' provided care for the surrounding communities for over 43 years.
Larry's curiosity led him to pursue a wide array of interests that were a constant source of wonderful, animated conversations. Throughout his life, Larry was an advocate for education and health. He was a steward for the environment and displayed great respect for all living things. His kind and humble nature touched every one that had the good fortune to know him. He will be missed.
