Parnell–John Joseph Donahue, Sr. was born December 6, 1927 in Holbrook, Iowa, the son of J.C. and Alice Welsh Donahue. He graduated from Parnell High School in 1946. John was united in marriage to Dorothy Ann Kucera on November 8, 1956 in Parnell. He has lived in the Holbrook and Parnell communities all his life. John known as “Painter” was a self employed painter for 35 years. He enjoyed being around people, Hawkeye Football, hunting, fishing and attending Air Shows. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Parnell. After a lengthy illness John is walking with the Lord on March 7, 2007 at the age of 79 years. John is survived by his wife Dorothy of Parnell; seven children: Alice (Butch) Wetzel of Altoona, John Donahue, Jr. of Williamsburg, Charles Donahue of Parnell, Larry (Sue) Donahue of Perry, Robert (Mary) Donahue of Amana, Katherine Donahue of Oxford and Anne Witherell of Amana and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a infant son: John Charles Donahue. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30am Saturday, March 10, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Parnell. Fr. Andrew Kelly will officiate. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Holbrook. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at the church. There will be a prayer service at 7:00pm. Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg are caring for services.
