Lillian E. Colton, age 88 of Marengo, died Saturday, September 23, 2006 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 27, 2006, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with George Grothman officiating. Burial will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at Compton Cemetery, Lamont, IA. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.

She is survived by three children, Beatrice Kay Strief (Roger) of Marengo, Quentin Paul Colton of Williamsburg and Asenath Ann Kern (Peter) of White Rock, British Columbia, Canada; 5 grandchildren, Lisa Medearis of Independence, Wendy Strief of Ladora, Jared Jack of Hawaii, Shelly Seligman of Canada and Shanna Jack of Canada; and several great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Lauretta Turner of Dyersville, Faith Strackvein of Lowden, and Ruth Kostichek of Arizona, and a brother Quentin Hoyer of Springfield, IL. along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clyde Colton, three brothers and two sisters.

Lillian Eleanora Hoyer was born December 2, 1917 in Strawberry Point, Iowa, the fourth child of Gus and Ella Asmus Hoyer. She graduated from Strawberry Point High School in 1937 and married Clyde Carlisle Colton on December 14, 1939 in Independence, Iowa. The couple lived in Lamont for many years. Clyde died in 1957. Lillian moved to Marengo in 1979, and was employed by the Marengo Memorial Hospital in the dietary department until she retired in 1986.She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She enjoyed sewing, puzzles and bible study and loved to discuss the Bible with others.
