Z. Ethel Lortz, age 94, of Amana, formerly of Williamsburg, died Saturday, July 29, 2006 at Colonial Manor of Amana, following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 2, 2006, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Williamsburg with Rev. James Parks officiating. Burial will be in Pilot Grove Cemetery, Williamsburg. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to St. Paul’s Methodist Church Building Fund.She is survived by a daughter, Yvonne “Bonnie” Hull and husband Bob of Cedar Rapids; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Lortz of Conroy; seven grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 9 step-great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild. In addition she is survived by a sister, Viola Roberts of Grundy Center, and sisters-in-law, Yvonne Grimm and Elaine Lortz of Williamsburg.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Malcolm in 1951, a son Larry Lortz in 2003, three brothers, Ernest, Dean and Eugene Grimm, and a son-in-law, Mervin Glandorf in 1988.Zelda Ethel Grimm was born June 21, 1912 in rural Millersburg, the daughter of Connie Ellsworth Grimm and Elva Ethel Sparrow Grimm. She received her education in the Millersburg schools and graduated from Millersburg High School in 1930. Ethel married Malcolm Ralph Lortz on February 17, 1933. She was a telephone operator in Williamsburg for many years. She also worked at the Ben Franklin Store in Williamsburg and provided day care in her home. After her husband died in 1951, Ethel rented rooms in her home to boarders. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Williamsburg.
