Hello all,

I am looking for more information, specifically regarding close relatives of Mr. Otto Ferdinand Friedrich Rohr (b. 1868, Schleswig-Holstein; d. 1942, Davenport, IA). He married Caroline Sophia Giese (b. 1867, Schleswig-Holstein; d. 1938, Davenport, IA) and immigrated to Iowa in 1892 with their 2 young sons, Wilhelm Frederick and Hermann Ferdinand. Otto & Caroline had 3 more children in Iowa: Elfrieda Viola, Ferdinand Frederick, and Louis August. When their children were grown, Otto & Caroline purchased and moved into a very large house in the Historic Hamburg district of Davenport, at 703 N. Ripley. They operated the extra rooms as a boarding house and both lived their until their deaths.

Otto's aunt named Christina Magdalena Rohr (b. 1841 Schleswig-Holstein; d. 1922, Holstein, Ida County, IA). She and her husband, Christian Wehde, immigrated with their 7 children in 1887 (before Otto & his family) and lived their entire lives in Holstein, Ida County, IA.

I have very detailed information on both the Rohr & Giese lines, much of which was obtained through original print church records that can only be accessed in person in Germany (aka not available online). Unfortunately, no birth record could be located for Otto Rohr, even though the records of his parents, grandparents and wife/her family were all obtained through the same church. This means I have no way of knowing the names of Otto's siblings, and thus that entire generation of Rohrs is a complete mystery to me.

I am wondering if anyone has ANY information on specifically Otto Ferdinand Friedrich Rohr. His father was Claus Hinrich Rohr and mother Marie Magdalena Kruse, both were born and died in Schleswig-Holstein in a small town on the Baltic called Hohenfelde. I am located in Birmingham, AL and am thus unable to look for records by hand which are unavailable online. I do volunteer lookups for Alabama records for complete strangers on a regular basis. If anyone would be willing to lookup some information for me, or even exchange genealogical services, I would be so very appreciative. Thank you!

Isabelle Rohr
