William H. Erickson - Nov. 15, 1914 - July 30, 2003

William H. Erickson of Lakeside, formerly of Holstein, Iowa, died Wednesday July 30, 2003, at the Newell Good Samaritan Center in Newell, Iowa.

William Ericksen was born November 15, 1914, in Holstein, Iowa, the son of William and Alvena (Hogrefe) Ericksen. He was baptized and confirmed in the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Holstein. Bill graduated from Holstein High School in 1932.

On April 27, 1940, he married Doris Carnes of Holstein—the couple recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. Bill served in the United States Army in Tyler, Texas, during World War II. After the war, he returned to Holstein where he owned and operated the Standard Oil Station and the Star Motel for 30 years. He was a member of the Holstein Fire Department for 20 years and served as the assistant fire chief for a number of those years.

Upon retirement, Bill enjoyed his winters in Arizona and returned each spring for the summer season. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and especially golf—he’d had the thrill of making two holes-in-one. He enjoyed professional sports of all kinds and had a special place in his heart for his beloved Cubs. Bill enjoyed life to the fullest; he had a sharp wit and a great sense of humor. His children and grandchildren were always a very important part of his life.

William Ericksen leaves to mourn his passing his wife Doris; two sons: William of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Robert and wife Jill of Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Diane Henrichsen of Rogers, Arkansas, and Joanie and husband Doug Clausen of Storm Lake, Iowa; eleven grandchildren: Scott Ericksen of Houston, Texas, Wendy Ellis of Wakefield, Nebraska, Sean and Bruce Ericksen of Dallas, Texas, Ruth, Elizabeth and Anthony Henrichsen of Rogers, Arkansas, Ryan and Trisha Clausen of Omaha, Nebraska, and Lindsay and Aaron Clausen of Storm Lake, Iowa; two great-grandchildren: Paige and Emily Ellis of Wakefield, Nebraska; and one sister, Emily Curtis of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Preceding Mr. Ericksen in death were his parents and one sister.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 2, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the BV Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call anytime after 3:00 p.m. on Friday, August 1, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake where the family will be present from 6-8:00 p.m.
