Robert Richard Barton
(February 8, 1865 – April 26, 1941)

Robert Richard Barton was born at Peoria, Ill, February 8, 1865, and passed away at his home in Ida Grove Saturday morning, April 26, at the age of 76 years, 2 months and 18 days. The cause of his death was a heart attack. At the age of 18 years he arrived in Albany, Nebr., and later went to Philley, Nebr., then to Craborehard, Nebr. Here he was united in marriage with Miss Esther Viola Westfall, April 11, 1885. They resided at Craborchard for a while, then moved to Dewitt, Nebr., where they lived four years and then moved to Ida Grove and have spent most of the remaining 52 years. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary April 11, 1935. He is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Nettie Nelson Spooner, Wis., and Mrs. Ollie Fletcher, Sioux City, and one son Robert Jr. of this city. Also 22 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Five children preceded him in death. Funeral services were conducted by Moore Bros., at the Methodist church Tuesday at 2 o’clock p.m. with Rev. H. E. Whyte officiating. Max Whited sang “Abide with Me” “When the Roll is Called Up Yonder” and “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” accompanied by Mrs. Ronald Courtright. Interment was made in the Ida Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were Andrew Wilcox, C. L. Marsh, Dewey Burns, Fred Eths, D. J. Rabe and Henry Stamp.
