Former Arthur Resident Dies
Charles Boyer, 50, Passes Away At Perham, Minn., September 3
Arthur – Word was received here Wednesday morning of the death of Charles Boyer, a former Arthur boy and oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Boyer, long time residents of Ida County. Charles Orlando Boyer was born Feb. 6, 1890, near Ida Grove and passed away Tuesday September 3, at Perham Hospital, Perham, Minn., having attained the age of 50 years, 6 months, and 28 days. He was baptized by his grandfather, the Rev. I. E. Boyer of the Church of God at Ida Grove and brought up in a Christian home. He spent his early boyhood on his grandfather’s homestead in Ida County where he received his education in the rural schools and later attended Arthur high school. After leaving high school, he took up barber training and followed that trade for about 17 years. He located at Obert, Nebr., in 1913 and was married November 24, 1816 [1916] to May C. Vogel of Obert. Mr. and Mrs. Boyer made their home at Obert, where Mr. Boyer served as councilman and town clerk for a number of years. In the spring of 1924 they moved to Frazee, Minn., where they engaged in farming. A few years later they moved to Minagaha, Minn., where Mr. Boyer has made his home until the time of his death. He leaves to mourn his loss his devoted wife, Mrs. May C. Boyer, his aged mother Mrs. Mary C. Boyer of Arthur, three brothers, Ernest W. of Jackson, Minn., Howard W. Denver, Colo., and Clyde E. Minneapolis, Minn., one sister, Mrs. Zadie Metz of Ida Grove. He has been preceded in death by his father, C. W. Boyer, and two sisters Mrs. Winifred Brown and Mrs. Zella Townsend. Mr. Boyer was a loving and faithful husband and devoted to his wife and his home. He was a kind and thoughtful neighbor and interested in the welfare of his community. He served on the Township Board for several years and was the chairman at the time of his death. Unfortunately, Mr. Boyer had been a victim of an explosion when a young man and had received serious burns that had greatly impaired his health. He had not been well for a number of years, but was an energetic and industrious person and because of his happy uncomplaining nature, his wife and friends did not realize that he was failing so rapidly. He was up and about his home only a few days before his death and after going to the hospital for treatment did not give up hope for recovery, so that his sudden death is a great shock to his loved one and friends. Funeral services were held in the Bethel Lutheran Church of Minagaha, a little country church just two miles from his home, on Saturday, Sept. 7. Burial was made in the churchyard cemetery. Those attending the funeral from here were Mrs. Mary C. Boyer, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brown and daughter, Roberta, Mrs. Zadie Metz, and Mrs. Annie M. Kennedy of Sioux City.
