August Thiede and Michial Bernhardt Are Mourned by Many
Schleswig – Funeral services were held Friday for August Thiede, who died at his home Tuesday morning, May 28, following an illness of nine weeks. Services were held Friday at the home at 1 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church at 1:30 p.m. and at the Stockholm Township Church at 3 p.m. with Rev. E. F. Schwidder in charge. Burial was made in St. John’s Cemetery at Stockholm. August Friedrich William Thiede was born in Ejohhof, Germany, Sept. 11, 1855 and came to America at the age of 22. He worked in Clinton County on a farm and in 1881 he was united in marriage with Maria Brandenburg. Eleven children were born to this union three died in infancy. They resided on a farm in Stockholm township until 1915 when they moved to Schleswig. Mrs. Thiede died in 1926. Mr. Thiede remained in his home with his daughter, Frances, who cared for him until his death. Mr. Thiede was a charter member of St. John’s Lutheran church of Stockholm Township and became a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. He was 84 years, 6 months, and 17 days old at the time of his death. Left to mourn his death are two step-children, Gustav and Wm. Stehr of Boyer, Henrietta, Mrs. Albert Baker of Schleswig, Otto Thiede of Deloit, Rosena, Mrs. Henry Brockman of Schleswig, Miss Frances Thiede of Schleswig, Louis Thiede of Boyer, and Lydia, Mrs. Louis Kastner of Schleswig, 22 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and other relatives.
