Obituary
Battle Creek – Funeral services were conducted here Tuesday afternoon in the Christensen funeral home for Henry Hahn with Rev. George Griesse officiating. Pall bearers were John Klahn, Ray Simmons, Fred Shoenfeld, Joe Taylor, Rudolph Bumann and John Schiernbeck. Music was by Emy Lou Moltmann, Helen Jensen, Eldora Rossow and Arlene Broders, who sang “Rock of Ages” and “Asleep in Jesus,” accompanied by Mrs. Griesse. Mr. and Mrs. Hahn had lived in Battle Creek since 1940 and had been residents of the community many years. They were widely known and had many friends. Mr. Hahn was born October 1, 1870 on the Island of Fehmern, Germany, and passed away Saturday night in his home after a prolonged illness. His parents were Christian and Christena Hahn. He was the second oldest of five children. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in his native land and came to this county at the age of 21. He lived at Schleswig, where he farmed and later had a dray line. In 1900 he came to the Battle Creek community and in 1902 he married Mary Larsen. He farmed in this community many years before coming to town. Survivors include the widow, three children, Harry of Battle Creek; Rosselle (Mrs. Emil Kuhlman) of Holstein, and Henry Hahn Jr. of Ida Grove; and a grandson, Harry Hahn Jr. Source – Ida County Pioneer Record, Ida Grove, Iowa, Thursday, July 25, 1946, p.10
