Obituary – Melvin Kirk Farmer
Melvin Kirk Farmer was born March 13, 1886 in Covington, Kentucky and died at his home in Cherokee, Iowa July 18, 1946 at the age of 60 years, 4 months and five days. He came to Iowa in 1914 and was married to Miss Edna Barrett December 30, 1916. To this union was born two children, Earl L. Farmer of Elizabeth, LA., and Donabelle (Mrs. William J. Cummins), of Cedar Rapids. He leaves his wife, children, and granddaughter, Elizabeth E. Farmer and relatives and friends to mourn his passing. Services were conducted from the Moore and Christiansen Funeral Home July 22 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Thomas B. Collins in charge. Miss Maxine Forney and Mrs. Lois Schroeder sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “We Are Going Down the Valley” Mrs. C. K. Lahman presided at the piano. Interment was in the Ida Grove Cemetery. Pall bearers were Leland Nordell, Ferd Boger, Larue McShane, Ray Conard, Howard Lynch and Wm. Rothluebber. Source – Ida County Pioneer Record, Ida Grove, Iowa, Thurs., July 25, 1946, p.2

Melvin Farmer Dies in Cherokee
Melvin K. Farmer, 60, died suddenly of a heart attack July 18 at his home in Cherokee. Farmer had lived in Ida Grove until about 8 weeks ago when he moved to Cherokee to work. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Moore-Christiansen Funeral Home at 2 p.m. with Rev. Thomas B. Collins in charge. Interment was in the Ida Grove Cemetery.
