Obituary – Mrs. Elizabeth Scheidegger
Battle Creek – Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, July 2 in St. John’s Lutheran Church for Mrs. Elizabeth Scheidegger with Rev. George Griesse officiating. Pallbearers were Herbert Quandt, Loren, Walter, Harley, Alvin and Marlin Mildenstein, all grandsons of the deceased. A girls choir sang “Asleep in Jesus” and “For Me to Live in Jesus” and “Beloved It Is Well” accompanied by Mrs. Griese. Mrs. Elizabeth Emilie Scheidegger nee Bliesner was born October 4, 1857 at Geortz, Holstein, Germany, and passed away Tuesday evening, June 29, at the home of her son Henry Mildenstein, at the age of 90 years, 8 months and 25 days. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Neukirchen and was confirmed Palm Sunday 1872 at Grossen Brode, Germany. On October 6, 1880, she was married to Nicholaus Mildenstein in Petersdorf on the Island of Fehnarn. To this union 10 children were born: Johannes Mildenstein of Petersdorf, Fehnarn; Mrs. Margretha Becker of Hamburg, Germany; Mrs. Emma Kluever of Germany; Nicholaus Mildenstein of Cushing; Henry and Herman of Battle Creek; Louisa of California; Emil of Ida Grove; Hans of Ute and Anna who died in infancy. Mr. Mildenstein passed away in 1909. In 1912 Mrs. Scheidegger and two sons, Emil and Hans, came to America. She had made her home in Battle Creek since 1927. On January 21, 1939, she was married to Andrew Scheidegger, who passed away January 30, 1932. Mrs. Scheidegger was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and also member of the Ladies Aid and whenever her health permitted, she was a regular attendant both at church services and at Aid meetings. Mrs. Scheidegger leaves to mourn her departure 9 children, 27 grand children and 61 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Among those attending the funeral from out of town were: Mrs. Stella Eilts of Council Bluffs, Mrs. Kate Adams, Chicago, Ill; George Redenius and Betty, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Mildenstein, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hintz, Mr. and Mrs. Harley Mildenstein, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Ernt and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Van Herswyk and Mrs. Katie Van Heeswyk, Anton; Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Peters, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Westphal, Cushing, Mr. and Mrs. Hans Mildenstein, Ute; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Harms, Rockwell City; Mr. and Mrs. John Riessen, Sioux City; Mrs. Lee Hamann; Ricketts; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ehlert and family, Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Steve Howard of Denison; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Freidrichsen, Bloomfield; Nebr.; Mrs. Ira Brandt, Anthon; Mr. and Mrs. Matt Wilkin and daughter, Schleswig, and Mrs. Alvina Peters of Kingsley.
