Obituary – Albert F. Kopplin
Battle Creek – Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, July 3 at 2 o’clock in the First Presbyterian church for Albert F. Kopplin, a long time resident of this community, Rev. R. J. Rutt of Westminister Presbyterian church of Ida Grove officiated. Pallbearers were Ray Goodenow, Martin Lenth, Ed Campbell Sr., Jed Campbell, Theodore Greenwald and Henning Schmidt. Mrs. J. J. Schmidt, Mrs. Mary Hall, Don Goodenow, and Reginald Hall sang “Going Down the Valley” and “Abide With Me” accompanied by Cassie Taylor. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery. Albert F. Kopplin, son of Wm. F. and Louise Kopplin, was born in Germany May 3, 1863. He passed away from a heart attack Wednesday noon, June 30, aged 85 years, 1 month and 7 days. He came to America with his parents in 1869 and settled in Butler County, Iowa, where they resided until March 1881 when they moved to Ida County. He grew to manhood in this vicinity and was engaged in farming. On May 21, 1890, he was united in marriage to Lula Slater in the home of her parents. They farmed in Battle Twp., one year and then moved to the Nathan Edwards farm in Maple Twp., which they had bought. After living there seven years they bought the Thomas Pierpoint farm four miles northeast of Battle Creek where they lived until 1911 when they retired and moved to town. He was elected to the town council in April 1922 and served three terms as chairman of the street and alley committee. During this time the pavement was laid. Survivors are: his wife, Lula; one daughter, Mrs. Jennie Watson of Carroll; four grandchildren; Burtis Burow of Ann Arbor, Mich., Mrs. Merril Brown of Baltimore, Md., Ver Dean and Barbara Burrow at home with their father, L. A. Burow at Battle Creek; one great grandchild, Gary Lee Butrow; his youngest brother, T. H. Kopplin of Holstein and several nieces and nephews. His eldest daughter, Mrs. Mamie Burow, preceded him in death. Among the relatives and friends attending the funeral from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Watson, Carroll; Mrs. Merril Brown, Baltimore, Md.; Mr. and Mrs. Burtis Burow, Ann Arbor, Mich.; Miss Francis Kopplin, Chicago, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Deuell, Shell Rock; Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Kopplin, Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Joslin, Mr. and Mrs. K. B. McArthur, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Kopplin, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Joslin, Holstein; Mr. Robert Slater and son, Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Royal Bloom, St. Paul; Charley Slater, Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Earl L. Brown, Cedar Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Mox Bockwoldt of Ida Grove and Mrs. L. J. Mungon, Carroll; Mrs. Don Bryant of Ames.
