Arthur News – Obituary of Elim Linman
Funeral services were held for Elim Linman, February 18, at the Evangelical Free church at Rockford, Ill., with Rev. Elmer Johnson officiating. The large attendance and the many beautiful floral pieces testified to the love and esteem that Mr. Linman held in Rockford and vicinity. Elim, third son of Victor and Sophia Linman, was born August 23, 1892 at Kiron. Later the family moved to the family homestead south of Arthur where he grew to manhood. He passed away February 13, 1947 at 10:05 p.m. at an Elmhurst, Ill. hospital following an automobile accident near that place. He was married April 17, 1920 to Edna Carlson of Rockford, Ill. They lived on a farm south of Arthur until January 1922 when they moved to Rockford and engaged in a successful business. He is survived by his wife, Edna and son, Miloe, brothers, Roy and Irvin of Arthur and Alvin of California and many other relatives. Following is a clipping from a Rockford, Ill. paper; Funeral arrangements were incomplete today for Elim Linman, 54, 2017 South Fourth Street operator of the Linman Floor Shop, 427 7th Street, who died in Elmhurst hospital at 10:05 p.m. yesterday of automobile accident injuries. Mr. Linman had suffered a compound fracture of the hip and internal injuries in a collision 15 miles west of Elmhurst last Thursday. He had been a patient at the hospital since that time and seemed at first to be recovering. Early this week, however; his condition grew worse and several blood transfusions failed to bring improvement. His son, Miloe, was driving at the time of the accident. Mr. Linman’s wife, Edna, was also in the car, but mother and son were not seriously hurt. Mr. Linman was one of the three founders of the Car-Pet-Lane store. Laurel E. Carlsorom and Oscar W. Peterson were associated with him, the firm taking it’s name from the first syllable of their surnames. After a number of years, Mr. Linman established his own business across the street in 1941. He was a member of the Seventh Street Business Men’s Association and of the Evangelical Free Church. Born August 23, 1892 in Kiron, Iowa, he lived in Arthur, Iowa until he came to Rockford in the early 20s. Source – Ida County Pioneer Record, Thursday, March 13, 1947, p.2
