Obituary
Mrs. E. C. Fobes, 77, former pioneer resident of Ida Grove, died at Long Beach, Calif., Tuesday, January 21, after a short illness. Eva Gertrude Fobes, only daughter of Kinsey K. and Elizabeth Page Wiggins, was born September 5, 1869 at Lowden in Cedar County, Iowa. She would have been 78 years old her next birthday. At the age of ten she moved with her parents to Ida Grove and attended school. After her graduation she taught in the rural schools near Danbury. She was united in marriage with Edgar C. Fobes on February 2, 1888, a son of one of Ida County’s earliest pioneers. Seven children were born to them, Kenneth K. of Sioux City; Louis E., Los Angeles, Darrel F. and Scottie H., Long Beach, Calif, Zoa, Elwood and another child died in infancy. Mr. Fobes preceded his wife in death on June 22, 1942. Besides her sons she is survived by ten grandchildren and her only brother, Louis K. Wiggins of Sioux City. Mrs. Fobes resided in Ida Grove 62 years, going to Long Beach, Calif., after the decease of her husband to make her home with her youngest son, Scottie. She was an active member of the Episcopal church. She was a kind and loving mother, always ready to help family, friend or neighbor in time of need or trouble.
AT REST – Her yesterday is not dead; only joining her today, for tomorrow’s eternal peace.
Funeral services were held at Moore & Christensen funeral home Sunday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Thos. B. Collins officiating. Mrs. Leslie McCamley sang, “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” and “The Lord is My Shepherd,” accompanied by Mrs. R. J. McNelly. Interment was in the Ida Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were W. H. O’Brien, W. L. Krick, Ben H. Todd, Grover Koons, Clate Winslow and Floyd Maxwell. Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Kinsey Fobes and daughter, Patsy, of Sioux City; L. E.
