Death of George Graves
Died – On Wednesday night, January 8, 1908, at the family home in Ida Grove, George W. Graves. A kind and loving husband and father, a good neighbor and a local friend, he is mourned by all who knew him. George W. Graves was born in New York, September 1, 1838. At the age of two years he moved with his parents to Tecumseh, Mich., where he was raised on a farm. In 1865 he left the old home place in Michigan and came west to Iowa, settling at Clarence, where he married Miss Anna M. Johnson, February 14, 1866. In 1893 he and his family moved to Ida Grove in the month of February and have since made their home in the one house. Mrs. Graves his wife and mother of the home, died 11 years ago the 8th of last March. His only children are Miss Emily Graves and Mrs. Elizabeth Cross, who have been faithful and devoted daughters to their suffering father in every hour of his failing health, and have helped to make his life as comfortable as possible. The dear old Grandmother Johnson still lives in her 86th year to suffer with the bereaved ones. Besides the daughters, Mr. Graves leaves four sisters, Mrs. Sterling and Mrs. Wilbur of California, Mrs. Gilmore of Michigan and Mrs. Howlett of Minneapolis, and also Charles of Michigan and William of Columbus, Neb. The funeral was held Sunday from the home, where Rev. Gilbert preached the sermon. The remains were laid to rest beside his wife in the Ida Grove Cemetery.
