Obituary – Edward Wm. Pilcher
Edward William Pilcher, son of Harvey and Jennie Pilcher, was born at Boone, Iowa, December 3, 1875. He moved with his family to Ida County while a small boy and was reared on the home place now owned by Clinton Railsback. It was there on the farm that he spent his boyhood days. He attended Denison Business College in preparation for his successful life in business. Mr. Pilcher was married to Faye Winans on August 2, 1902. To this union three children were born, Curtiss, Opal and Bessie. His wife and two children, Curtis and Opal, preceded him in death, having passed away within a 13 month period. He was remarried to Anna J. Petersen at Boone on May 26, 1908. The couple have made their home in Ida Grove for the past 49 years. Mr. Pilcher will be remembered as an outstanding citizen of Ida Grove and community having been in business with his brother Ray for 45 years. For the past two years his health has failed and recently he was taken to the Lutheran Hospital in Omaha where he was cared for until his death on Thursday, July 11. He is survived by his widow, Anna Pilcher; one daughter (Bessie) Mrs. Wm. Olson of Omaha; one sister (Jennie) Mrs. Thomas Copps of Ida Grove; six brothers, Ralph of Missoula, Mont., Ray and Charley, Ida Grove; Frank, Lawton; Clate and Horace of Fort Dodge. Also three grandsons, Robert, William, and Tom of Omaha and many nephews and nieces. Funeral services were held at the Church of God on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Russell Wilson officiating. Mrs. Harriet Laursen and Mrs. Virginia Wellendorf sang “The Lights of Home” and “In the Garden” accompanied by Mrs. Arthur Rathbun. Burial was in the Ida Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were Rudolph Jensen, Herman Carstens, Harold Willcutt, Arthur Johnson, Earl Stern, Russell Hultgren.
