GALVA - Services for Deanna J. Otto, 80, of Galva were held Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020, at St. John Lutheran Church in Galva with the Rev. Paul D. Egger officiating. Burial was in St. John Lutheran Cemetery at Galva with Jensen Funeral Home in Holstein is in charge of arrangements.
Deanna Jean (Williams) Otto was born March 30, 1940, at home in Casey to Delbert D. Williams and Wilma W. (Wilson) Williams. As a child, she lived in Casey and Somers and then moved to Calendar. She was a 1958 graduate of Gowrie High School. Deanna then attended UNI for one year and then transferred to Buena Vista College, where she earned a teaching degree in 1962. She taught one year at Clarion High School and started the girls’ sports program. She taught P.E. for two years in Gowrie and was involved in girls’ basketball, softball and cheerleading. On June 9, 1963, Deanna married Virdene L.W. Otto in Gowrie. They made their home in Fort Dodge, Gowrie and Harcourt before moving to a farm just outside of Galva in 1970. Deanna worked part-time at the DeKalb plant and Wal-Mart in Storm Lake, in addition to helping run the farms. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Galva, where she was active in Ladies’ Aid. She died Dec. 1, 2020, at Creighton University Medical Center-Bergan Mercy at Omaha, Neb.
Deanna was preceded in death by her parents, Delbert and Wilma Williams; her parents-in-law, Adolf and Lorna Otto; a brother, Darrell Williams; a sister, Pearl Swanson; and a brother-in-law, Darwin Otto. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Virdene Otto of Galva; and two daughters, Tracy (Bryan) Terry of Holstein and Sheri (Doug) Conover of Galva. Also surviving are her seven grandchildren: Kelli (Dustin) Hahn of Worthington, Minn.; Kody (Kayla) Terry of Holstein; Kyle (Leann) Terry of Hudson, Wis.; Tori Conover (Paul Allerdings) of Alta; Ashley (Sean) Bainbridge of Kingsley; Kegan Conover of Galva; and Daphne Conover of Galva.
