(November 16, 1952 – December 4, 2020)

IDA GROVE – Services for Lyle W. Holmes, 68, of Ida Grove will be at a future date, to be determined. In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated. Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home in Ida Grove is in charge of arrangements.
He was born in Atlantic Nov. 16, 1952, to Leonard and Gertrude Holmes, seventh of eight children. Lyle was baptized and confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church in Griswold. He graduated from Griswold High School, where he met his sweetheart, best friend, and beautiful wife of 49 years, Frances Kimberly Nuckolls. After 20 years of faithful service, Lyle retired from the U.S. Air Force. While serving his country, he lived in many states and countries. But, after retirement, he decided to return to his roots in Iowa, settling down in Ida Grove. Lyle was so loving and proud of his four children and their spouses: Kyle and wife, Nicole; Catryna and husband, Bill; Aaron and wife, Heather; and Amanda and husband, Larry. He enjoyed root beer floats with his 11 grandchildren: Hailey, Kimmie, Paige, Jarrod, Chad, Andrew, Emma, Blake, Alli, Alex and Nicholas; and his great-granddaughter, Emberly. Lyle died Dec. 4, 2020, surrounded by his family. He was survived by five brothers and sisters: Lavone, Lloyd, Lois, Leroy and Loretta and preceded to heaven by his parents and his brothers, Leonard and Larry. Lyle will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him.
