Faith B. (Bowen) Schiernbeck, was born April 10, 1913, at Independence, Kansas, daughter of Porter E. and Fannie Idela McFarland Bowen, and passed away at her home south of Battle Creek, Iowa on Feb 5, 1940, at the age of 26 years, 9 months, and 25 days. Burial was in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Battle Creek, Iowa. [No gravestone found for her, but she is buried next to Hugo Schiernbeck in Mt. Hope Cemetery.]
Her mother died when Faith was 4 years old, when she came to Denison, Iowa, to make her home with an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Wetke. It was here where she grew to young womanhood and received her public school education and graduated from Denison High School. She entered State Teachers College at Cedar Falls, Iowa, after which she taught school for three years in the public schools of Crawford County. On August 26, 1936 she was united in marriage to Arthur W. R. Schiernbeck. To this union two sons were born, Dale William and Dean Richard. Immediately after their marriage they moved to the Village of Arthur, Iowa, after which they located on a farm near Danbury, Iowa, and about 2 months ago they came to the farm south of Battle Creek.
Survivors include her husband, 2 sons, her father, Porter R. Bowen of Independence, Kansas, and 2 brothers, Marion W. of Denison, Iowa, and Clarion F. of Pearsall, Texas.

Young Mother Kills Self At Battle Creek
Mrs. Arthur Schiernbeck, 26, wife of a farmer living south of Battle Creek, died late Monday afternoon from a self inflicted bullet wound in the upper abdomen. Her husband found her and called for aid. Dr. G. S. Millice of Battle Creek was summoned but she was dead upon his arrival at the scene of the tragedy. No inquest was ordered by John Christensen, County Coroner. No motive was given by the family for the suicide. She leaves two small sons – one a baby of six months. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the First Presbyterian church with Rev. A. F. Rumbaugh officiating.
