Horstman Funeral Friday, March 20

Funeral services were held Friday, March 20, at 2:00 p.m. for Paul Horstman of Battle Creek, in the First Presbyterian church, with Rev. John C. Thorns officiating. Mr. Horstman passed away suddenly Tuesday morning, March 17.

Paul Horstman was born at Battle Creek, Iowa, May 25, 1888, son of August and Fredricka Horstman. He lived all his life in and around Battle Creek. Mr. Horstman was married to Dorothea Colshan November 15, 1911. Two sons were born to this union.

He was employed in a Battle Creek bank for seven years after his marriage He then took up farming and continued on the farm until retiring in 1950, since then he was secretary and treasurer of the Mt. Hope cemetery association. He was elected Mayor of the town of Battle Creek in January 1958 and continued in this capacity until his death. He united with the First Presbyterian church in Battle Creek, June 11, 1939.

He is survived by his widow and two sons, Gordon of Garfield, Minn., and Edward of Loveland, Colo; three brothers, Ed of Davenport, Eitel of Cherokee and Otto of Omaha: one sister, Fannie Horstman of Ida Grove; two grandchildren and one great grandchild. Three brothers and one granddaughter preceded him in death.

Bruce Goodenow sang “God Will Take Care You.” accompanied by Mrs. John Mickelsen, organist. Burial was in Mt. Hope cemetery under the direction of Christensen Funeral Home at Battle Creek
