A. B. Lampe is Cancer Victim; Passes Away Tuesday at His Home in Ida Grove After a Long Siege of Illness
After several weeks of intense suffering death came as a relief to A. B. Lampe at his home on Moorehead Avenue Tuesday, July 20 at 10:35 a.m. For several months he has been confined to his home and in addition to the cause of death, cancer, he also suffered much pain from an old gunshot wound which he received in the thigh some forty or more years ago. Mr. Lampe was born January 24, 1857 in Bellevue, Iowa, and had reached the age of 69 years, 5 months and 29 days. He was united in marriage to Miss Ella Geer in Jackson County, Ia., on the 9th day of September, 1880, and to this union thirteen children were born, nine of whom survive, five sons and four daughters, together with the widow, who has been his faithful companion through all their married life. Five years after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Lampe moved from Jackson to Ida County, locating at Battle Creek where he engaged in the painting and paper hanging trade for several years, afterward moving to the farm and following the agricultural life. He also followed his trade during his entire residence in the county. After twenty-six years of farm life he moved to Ida Grove seven years ago purchasing a home on Moorehead Avenue and up until about a year ago he followed the painter’s trade here. In addition to the widow and children he leaves one full brother, S. Lampe of Ida Grove, two half brothers residing at Bellevue, Iowa, and three half sisters, one in Colorado, one at Alton, Iowa, and one at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and in addition he has twenty-five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held from the home at 2 p. m., Friday and the remains will be taken to the Battle Creek cemetery for interment. Mr. Lampe was a good neighbor, a loyal friend and an honorable citizen, and the relatives have the sympathy of the community in the hour of bereavement.

A sad and peculiar coincidence in which death made itself felt twice within a few hours in the W. H. Lampe family occurred here Monday and Tuesday of last week. Mrs. Marie Brosamie, mother of Mrs. Lampe, passed away at the home of her son, Henry, at Cushing Monday evening. Thirteen hours later word was received that A. B. Lampe, had passed away at this home. Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Brosamie Thursday afternoon and interment was made in Hanover Cemetery. Services for Mr. Lampe were held at Ida Grove Friday afternoon and burial was made in the Mt Hope Cemetery in Battle Creek.
