Gladys E. Girardin - Mar. 17, 1914 - July 24, 2003

Gladys E. Girardin, age 89, of Schaller died Thursday, July 24, 2003, at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.

Gladys Girardin was born in March 17, 1914, at Lamberton, Minnesota, the daughter of Sidney and Nora (Jackson) Jeckell. She was baptized and confirmed in the First Methodist Church in Lamberton, MN. Gladys attended and graduated from high school in Sanborn, Minnesota. After coming to Storm Lake to live, she worked at Council Oak Grocery Store and Page’s Bakery for several years.

On June 19, 1947, Gladys married Charles Girardin at the United Methodist Church parsonage in Odebolt, IA. They made their home on a farm north of Schaller until retiring to a home in town. After her husband died in 1989, she moved to Storm Lake.

Gladys enjoyed farm life and homemaking. Her family was very important to her, and she enjoyed making them laugh with the gag gifts she would give. She was very active in the Schaller United Methodist Church and U. M. W holding a treasurer position for the circle group that she belonged to. Gladys also had a special talent for making and decorating wedding cakes.

Survivors include a son Larry and his wife Maxine of Raytown, MO, and a daughter Loa Jeanne Rice and her husband Ed of Alta; six grandchildren: Mary Ann McCormick and her husband Bill, Linda Lujan, Michelle Girardin, Stacia Ryan and her husband John, Dan Rice and his wife Roxanne, Melinda Ebel and her husband Greg; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters: Fernetta Siebrecht and her husband Wayne of Schaller and Naomi Patten and her husband Wilbur of Aurelia; two sisters-in-law: Betty Jeckell of Sac City and Vivian Kuhn and her husband Guy of Trenton, MO; as well as nieces and nephews.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be Saturday, July 26, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Schaller with Reverend Carol Gailey officiating. Burial will be in the Odebolt Cemetery with The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call on Friday, July 25, anytime from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller, where the family will be present from 6:00 – 8:00.
