(John) Lewis BERGUM 1888-1975

Word has been recieved of the death of Mr. Lewis Bergum, 87, in California. Funeral services were held in St. Olaf Lutheran Church at Bode Wednesday, Dec. 17 (1975). He is survived by one son, Orville.

Funeral services for Mr. John Lewis Bergum were held Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. in St. Olaf Lutheran Church at Bode, with interment in the church cemetery. Schellhammer Funeral Home of West Bend was in charge of the arrangements. Rev. Palmer Loken officiated. Soloist was Mrs. Donald Aure and organist, Mrs. David Engel. Casket bearers were Ray Holland of Humboldt, Erling Olson, Ronald Olson, Alvin Peterson of Algona, Marcus Rolland and Merle Sorlien of Bradgate.

Mr. Bergum was born to John and Lisa Bergum July 30, 1888 on a farm near Ottosen. He attended the first eight grades of Normal School in Sioux Falls, S.D. He also attended Normal School in Sioux Falls, S.D. He married Rose Nelson in 1912 and she died in 1964. They were the parents of two children, John Orville of Alhambra, Calif., and Lucille Constance Di Somma, who died in 1967 in England and is buried in the Bode cemetery.

Mr. Bergum is also survived by two grandsons and one great-granddaughter. Mr. and Mrs. Bergum farmed for many years. He retired in 1948, after which he was a painter. Two years ago he went to California to live with his son and wife Helen. The last months he has resided in Simpson's Guest Home in Alhambra, Calif., where he died Dec. 10. Relatives attending the funeral from out-of-town were Mr. and Mrs. Lenz of Mallard, Oscar Kallestad of Rodman, Orvis and Omar Lillevik of Cylinder, Mr. and Mrs. Shelgren of Gilmore City, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Peterson and Mrs. Alice Haugen of Algona, the Ray Holland family of Humboldt and the Merle Sorliens of Bradgate.
