Herman Hemmerson was the son of Nels and Julia Hemmerson, and was one of a family of nine children, was born February 17, 1855, on a farm in Dane County, near Madison, Wisconsin. He died after an illness of six days of pneumonia at his parent’s home February 2, 1898, at 3 o’clock p.m. When the deceased was 14 years of age he moved with his parents in the spring of 1869 to Humboldt County, Iowa, and remained on the farm with the family until the spring of 1877, when he decided to go west, where he was engaged in various occupations in a number of the western states. He returned to his old home in the spring of 1895 and lived with his parents until his death. A father, mother, three sisters and three brothers are left to mourn his loss. The funeral occurred Saturday, services being conducted by Rev. A. A. Marcy, and interment being in the Humboldt Cemetery. [Source – Gilmore City Globe, Gilmore, Iowa, Thurs., Feb 10, 1898, p.5]
