Funeral services for Dr. Robert E. Opheim, 59, of Clear Lake, former Livermore resident, were held at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake on Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 1:30 p.m., with burial in the Clear Lake Cemetery. He died Oct. 16, following a lengthy illness with cancer. Ward VanSlyke Colonial Chapel of Clear Lake was in charge of the arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; son Dr. Kent Opheim of Waterloo and Eric Opheim, a student at Iowa City; three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Judy) Griffin of West Des Moines; Mrs. Steven (Carolyn) Oelschlaeger of Granbury, Texas; and Sharon Opheim of Des Moines; a sister, Mary Amfahar of Urbandale; his stepmother, Mrs. Edwin Opheim of Northwood; and eight grandchildren.

Robert E. Opheim was born May 1, 1923, at Livermore, to Edwin and Leith Berryhill Opheim. He graduated from Livermore High School and from the University of Iowa school of dental surgery. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1947 and then served his internship in Iowa City. He married Evelyn Haesemeyer of Bode, on June 19, 1945, at Stanwood, Iowa. He had a practice of dental and oral surgery in Des Moines until 1964, when he moved to Clear Lake and became associated with Dr. Craven of Mason City. He was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church and belonged to the American Dental Association and the Oral Surgeon Association.
