LeRoy (Rusty) Gunderson, 56, 340 Ave. F, died Saturday evening at Bethesda General Hospital where he had been a patient since March 18. Services will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church with Rev. W.H. Janke officiating. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Bruce Funeral Home until noon Wednesday when the casket will be taken to the church.
Surviving are his widow, Naomi; two sons and a daughter, Nate Gunderson, Mason City; Mrs. Joan Pingel and Ray Gunderson of Fort Dodge; five grandchildren; nine brothers and sisters, Mrs. Levi Sween, Mrs. Mildred Olson and Clarence Gunderson, all of Bode; Mrs. Blanche Christiansen, Iowa Falls; Mrs. Lloyd Silva, El Cerrito, Calif.; Gilbert Gunderson, Terrell; Chester Gunderson, Belmond; and Mrs. Don Kullberg and Harland Gunderson, Fort Dodge.
Born and raised at Bode, Mr. Gunderson graduated from High School there. In 1941 he married Naomi Turk at Rockwell City. He served with the U.S. Army in World War II. The couple made their home in Fort Dodge, where he operated Eddie's Skating Rink at Expo Park for 10 years. He was employed at United States Gypsum for a few years before entering employment at Fort Dodge Packing Company, later Iowa Beef Processors.
He was president of Local P-1135 of the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen (AFL-CIO).
(There are no dates included in the newspaper clipping, but has to be before his sister, Mrs. Olson, died in 1973.)
