John F. Thorson, 84, a former Eagle Grove and Bode resident, died Friday night at Friendship Haven here where he had resided the past four months. He had not been well for several years.

Funeral services are planned for 1:30 p.m. Monday, at Samuel Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove, with the Rev. Jordan T. Jacobsen officiating. Burial will be at the cemetery at Bode, with the Sandvig Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, in charge.

Mr. Thorson was born in Stavanger, Norway, and came to the United States with his parents when he was 10 years old. He resided on a farm near Ottawa, Illinois until 1903 when he moved to Bode. He married Anna Marie Opheim there in 1906. They lived at Bode until 1914 when they went to Armstrong where they farmed until retiring and moving to Eagle Grove in 1945.

Mr. Thorson is survived by his wife, Anna Marie; seven children, Louis of Northbrook, Ill., Alden of New Berlin, Ill., Mrs. Floyd Sherrill of Thor, Mrs. Don Swenson of Jolley, Mrs. Hadley Mills of Le Mesa, Calif., Miss Sarah Thorson of Arlington, Va., and Mrs. Richard F. Browne of Oxen Hill, Md.; also nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Another survivor is a brother, Sherman Thorson, of Ottawa, Ill.

A son, John F. Thorson, Jr., was killed in World War II while serving in the Army in the Philippines and was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor posthumously.
