DELMAR LONNING

Delmar Lonning, 85, died at the Clarion Community Memorial Hospital on Friday, December 28, 1990. Funeral services were held from First Lutheran Church on Monday morning, December 31, at ten-thirty. Rev. William Granger officiated and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove. The Willim Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Special music was by Gary Brandt. Casket bearers were Alan, Dr. Phil, Roger and Steven Lonning, Kevin Ofstethun and Jerry Meyer.

Delmar was born at Thor on August 10, 1905, and was the son of Kolbein (Ben) E. and Elizabeth Andersson Lonning. He grew to manhood at Thor and graduated from school there in 1923. He worked on a construction crew in southern, Iowa and Missouri for several years. In 1934 he started farming near Eagle Grove. On April 11, 1936 he married Maybelle Wright at Eagle Grove. They moved to a farm in Wall Lake Township in 1936. Maybelle died in 1946. He farmed until he retired to town in 1966.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church. He also was a member of the IOOF Lodge in Clarion. In past years he had been active in bowling leagues.

Survivors are two sons, Dean M. Lonning, Spencer and Douglas L. Lonning, Clarion; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and five sisters, Sylvia Opheim, Waukon; Beulah Moon and Helen Milsap, both of Denver, Colorado, Verna Wickre, Ames and Fern Kizer [Kizar], Eagle Grove.

His parents, wife, 5 brothers, 3 sisters and an infant son, Kent, preceded him in death.

DELMAR LONNING

Delmar Lonning was born at Thor on August 10, 1905 and was the son of Kolbein (Ben) E. and Elizabeth Andersson Lonning. He grew up at Thor and graduated from school there in 1923. He worked on a construction crew in southern Iowa and Missouri for several years.

In 1934 he started farming near Eagle Grove. On April 11, 1936, he married Maybelle Wright al Eagle Grove. They moved to a farm in Wall Lake Township in 1936. Mrs. Lonning died in 1946. He farmed until he retired to town in 1966.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church, and the lOOF Lodge in Clarion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, five brothers, three sisters; and an infant son, Kent.

He is survived by two sons, Dean, Spencer; and Douglas L., Clarion, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Sylvia Opheim, Waukon; Beulah Moon and Helen Milsap, both of Denver, Colo.; Verna Wickre, Ames, and Fern Kizer [Kizar], Eagle Grove.
